Our Christmas........

To all my friends, new and old in blog land, I hope that your Christmas was everything that you'd hoped for. Christmas is also a time for catching up and our family was very happy to receive an ecard from "Wakako" a wwoofer who stayed with us and we unoffically adopted as a member of the family. Christmas morning was spend hurriedly doing the farm chores, then a quick wash and it was time to open the presents. DD gladly took on the cheif role of handing out the presents and the first one she opened was from Granny Janni (Grandma) and upon discovering her new yoghurt maker, quickly hid it behind her back and told her dearest father to keeps his eyes off it!
The animals weren't left out, they either got a new lead, collars or brush thanks to a shopping trip arranged by DD. This does include the goats and pictured below is "Teddy Bear" being fitted with his Christmas present which is a collar.
The past couple of days have been very humid and hot. Yesterday saw an afternoon storm with plenty of thunder but not much less, I think its building up for another one. We have finished the "Reds" new chook shed. There is a little doorway in which they enter. Inside is their ladder to reach the perch and two new laying boxes. It's a bit hard to see from this picture but there is also a doorway for us to access the shed so that we can clean it out from time to time or catch the chooks if need be. Note the red flap on the side, our user friendly hatch to collect the eggs.
Looking through the hatch you can see the new laying boxes and inside them farm fresh eggs. The first day we collected 5 eggs, not bad considering we only have 6 of this breed of chook.
During the year I have been following the progress of "pins & whiskers" and the one Christmas item a month and have taken the plunge from the sidelines and signed up for next year. Anyone who reads my blog will soon realize that my sewing is very few and very far between so it will also be a personal challenge for me and although I only managed to read 8 books from my goal of 12 it is never-the-less encouraging. Now the question is whether my crafty bestie "highland hen" will step up and also take on the challenge or is she really a chicken??????? What says you chook?
