A glorious and productive weekend.......

With the absence of rain and wonderful sunshine we managed to get quite alot done during the course of the weekend, yay to be outside again! Look what I found flowering in the garden, the dragonfruit. The bees were very active pollinating the flower but I think the frog is a bit confused.....

Being a person a tad bit afraid of snakes, I like to keep the backyard, garden and greenhouse in reasonable condition, at least I'll be able to see if a snake is there or not. With DH busy slashing the green manure crop and blading under the potatoes and DS away with his brother, it became blindingly obvious that this chore would fall in my lap. I was given a crash course in how to use the ride-on-mower (generally I use the push mower but takes way too long) after this it was another course in operating the brushcutter (my arms are still aching!!) of course these jobs were juggled between what needed to be done in the paddock first but alas I know now that I don't need to rely on somebody else to do it! Very enpowering ;)

The last row of potatoes have now been harvested and we have prepared another row about 45 meters long for our next crop with the fresh potatoes stored away ready for use. DS pumpkin seeds have all pushed their way up and are looking very healthy. After conquering the greenhouse on Sunday we are ready to start setting seeds again for the garden. With this in mind I did some researching on the moon phases and when to plant/seed what. I know it works especially when taking cuttings of the lavender. I have modified our calendar accordingly, I figure we are starting from scratch so why not give it ago. Yet another experiment, I'll keep you posted.

We will attempt to journey into town tomorrow, fingers crossed that the road is passable. We haven't had mail since 6th and I'm sweating on getting our new books on cheese making and building a smoke house along with getting a few supplies. Wish us luck!!
