Catching up on loose ends...

It is still very hot and humid but we have received some good rain about 100ml so far which thankfully put the bushfires in our area out (Thank God). I have tackled, for the first time, selling on ebay, here is the picture I added of our beautiful organically grown garlic. I am, however more apt at buying and have picked up some great Christmas gifts for family members.
Now that the boys are back from the front line so to speak, we are trying to get a few odd jobs finished before Christmas. With the rain and humidity the grass is starting to grow again, amazing really when you think only a week or so ago it was brown and appeared dead. DD up until the holidays has been living a charmed life but alas this has come to an abrupt holt and under much protest in which I am sometimes left thinking to myself it would have been easier and alot less stressful if I just did the job myself, was delegated the job of mowing. After a lecture (I mean safety talk) on how to operate the push mower she was set the task of mowing the garden area. For the record this is the first time ever that she has used a mower and I just HAD to get a photo of this epic event hehehehe........
While DD was busy, I grabbed the brush cutter and started tidying up around the house yard and garden. Our wonderful chooks are laying really well at the moment but something else has also discovered this and at times there are no eggs at all, the culprit being a goanna. Adding to the frustration, the chooks have now worked out how to escape the pen by flying up and walking over the greenhouse. grrrr.......
To tackle this problem a run of netting will be erected to stop our escape artists. Up until now a laying box and perches were set up under the bench in the greenhouse, thus providing shelter from the elements and the chooks body heat during the night keeps seedlings heated in winter, all sounds good in theory and we did give it a go but having the laying box placed where it is makes it too difficult for us to get down on our hands and knees to collect the eggs and secondly the stench is just well, something else...... So an actual chookhouse is being erected and the laying box approriately placed within, you might say it's user friendly for all LOL. A work in progress.....
